Washington Square Park

If you are in the , there’s no better place to hangout than Washington Square Park. The park has been under construction for the past several years, but now that it has been completed, the grounds are more beautiful than ever, with the Arch de Triumph elegantly framing the huge fountain in the middle of the park. When it’s nice out, Washington Square Park is transformed into everyone in the Village’s back yard, and favorite place to soak up the sun. Take a walk on the path that winds through the park, sit on a bench and read or watch the friendly residential squirrels play around the base of the trees. The park is situated in the center of the main campus of New York University, so it’s a popular hangout places for the students, as well as other people who live in the village. Visitors to the park can lay out on the grass and sunbathe, or participate in yoga or aerobics lessons in the sun. In the center of the park, people congregate to watch street music performed by various types of musicians. There’s even a pianist who has regularly played at the park- by the fountain- for many years, pushing his beat-up piano through the streets of New York and becoming quite the installation in the park. Children run around and throw pennies into the fountain, artists sketch in their books or take pictures with their cameras, and the sun shines down on the whole park in all its glory during the summer. Many days in the park, you can even catch movies and shows like Law and Order shooting against the familiar backdrop of Washington Square. This park is a great place to go and hang out and soak up the feeling of New York City, get some artistic inspiration, or just relax in the sun.
