Walking

Walking is a great way to see the city, because not only is it absolutely, 100% free, it also gives you the opportunity to see more than you normally would on a tour bus or taking the train from one specific destination to another. New York is not as big as it seems, and you can walk from the East Side to the West Side, or from the Village to Times Square pretty quickly. In fact, often times walking gets you there faster than a cab or train could, especially during rush hour. Even better, walking means you will see so much more en route to where you are going, and you’re more likely to discover a little gem that you would’ve otherwise passed up. Another cheap and efficient way to travel is by bike, but be careful. When visiting New York, you can rent a bike or use the CitiBike service, which allows you to pick up a bike and drop it off by your destination.
