Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden is located in exciting Midtown Manhattan, between 7th and 8th Avenues and stretching from 31st-33rd Street. Located on top of Penn Station. Also known as “MSG” or simply “the Garden,” it is best known for its professional sports, serving as home to the New York Rangers hockey team as well as the New York Knicks NBA team. Although it is well known for sports, the venue hosts a variety of entertainment including boxing, circuses, ice shows and concerts. Many major musical acts perform at the theater at Madison Square Garden during their tour stops in New York, and it is even creative home to musician Billy Joel. The Garden holds quite a bit of New York History, being the oldest sports facility in NYC. The garden is located in, and is a part of Pennsylvania Plaza, which also houses a major transportation hub and a commercial center. Major renovations, costing upwards of $1 Billion, were completed as recently as 2013, with the interior spaces being completely redone and improved, including new on-site restaurants and bars. If you are a sports fan, you can get tickets to a Knicks game or a Rangers game. Alternately, you can visit the Garden off-season and catch a team practice or scrimmage if you don’t want to spend the money on tickets to a big game. You can also take a tour of the Garden and learn all about the rich history of Sports and Performance Art housed within this historic New York City landmark.
