Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse/Dumbo
Brooklyn Bridge Park is a beautiful and scenic park in Brooklyn overlooking the East River. The park includes many destinations including the historic Fulton Ferry Landing and Piers 1-6. The park has beautiful gardens, playgrounds, picnic areas and sports fields all with views of the water, the skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. A bike path winds directly through the park to the water, where you can enjoy free kayaking during the summer on Thursdays (5:30-6:45) and Saturdays (10-3:00). From June through August, the public is offered free Kayaking for 20 minutes at a time on a first-come, first-served basis. Line up, fill out a waiver and you’ll be provided with a safety vest, a Kayak and basic instruction. Then you can paddle around with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge for 20 minutes! Kayaking meets at Pier 2 and boats launch from a floating dock. You can enter the park at Old Fulton Street to the North or Atlantic Avenue, and you can get there via the A/C trains at High St, F at York St, or 2/3 at Clark Street. Buses also go there, but the best form of transportation is by foot, on bike, or the East River Ferry. Come early to make sure you get your turn! If you like it, there are also free “Kayak Polo” games on Sundays, at 12:30 and 2:00. Reserve a spot online. Kayaking by the bridge is sure to be a fun time.
