Battery Park is a great destination for a fun and interesting day around one of the oldest Piers in New York City. Ran by the Battery Conservancy, the park has a major focus on agriculture and conservation. It houses a large urban farm, where kids can come and take classes during the summer on everything from growing flowers to cooking. Adults can take classes on urban farming. Best of all, the park is home to some amazing restaurants, including the famous Table Green and Table Green Cafe. These places serve all organic, free-range, local meat and produce, much of which is produced in and around New York City! There is a brand new pedestrian plaza and 3-story building with oyster bar and restaurant, as well, so you won’t only feel like you’re at the farm when you visit Battery Park. The park has amazing views of the Statue of Liberty, and launches cruises to Ellis Island and the Statue of liberty daily, including on a huge historic sailboat called Clipper City. Take a ride on the beautiful SeaGlass Carousel or take a class such as “Cooking Without Electricity!” or “Natural Dyes and Herb Sachets” to get in touch with your inner naturist. This is a great place to have a fun and enriching day, all while gazing at the majestic lady liberty!
